Mandatory Parents and Player Meeting, Nov. 4th, 6:30 PM

Due to the fact that the season has been pushed back two weeks, we are put in a bit of a bind with regards to apparel, shoes, travel gear, and the like.
To get this information out, as well as a detailed schedule and signups for tryouts, we will have a mandatory parents/players meeting in Tiger Arena at 6:30 P.M.
This will be great opportunity to meet the coaches, get schedules for the season, get information on fund raising, get information on spirit packs and kick off the new season on the right foot.

Any questions, please contact Coach Einfeldt at einfeldtb@sw1.k12.wy.us

Open Gym Schedule/Calendar

The 2014-15 basketball season is upon us.
We are extremely excited about this upcoming year and the memories that will be made.

Due to the new rules from the WHSAA, we are not allowed to start official practice until December 1st. This puts us into quite a crunch seeing as our first tournament is scheduled for December 11th.
This puts an increased premium on open gym and camp involvement.

Below we have included a schedule of the Open Gym/Camp dates leading up to December 1st.

You may also find our schedule on our google calendar here.

Regional Weekend Recap

The Rock Springs Boys Basketball team traveled to Casper this past weekend to participate in the annual 4A West Regional Tournament. Last year the Tigers finished with a fourth place seed going into the State Tournament.

At the beginning of the year, the team sat together and decided on team goals for the season. Making it to the Regional Championship was a goal for the Tigers, and they did just that.

Beating Evanston at home the week before was a big help for Rock Springs as that put them in place to play Green River in the first round of Regionals. Playing the win-less Wolves was no match for Rock Springs on Thursday night. Rock Springs beat Green River for the third straight time this year. The Tigers came out with a bang and obliterated the Wolves 63-32.

Friday evening brought an interested matchup between Rock Springs and Natrona. So far this year, Rock Springs always came up short and could not find a way to beat the Mustangs. However, after winning the last three games, Rock Springs had a lot of confidence knowing that it was a team that they should beat. And the team did just that. Leading the Mustangs by 10 most of the game and at one point 16, the Tigers were able to grab their first win against Natrona on Friday. One thing that stood out was how well they played together. The offense moved smoothly, and Natrona was unable to beat Rock Springs 3 times. The rock solid defense was tried and tested, but stood in place.

Securing the win against Natrona sent the Tigers on to the Championship. Facing the Trojans was a challenge, one that Rock Springs looked forward to. Rock Springs split games this year with Kelly Walsh. Each winning a game at home against each other. While the Trojans play a physical type of play, the boys team wasn't afraid to matchup with them. Rebounding was key to winning the game. With Kelly Walsh's huge big men, it made second chance points a big issue. Unfortunately, Rock Springs struggled to grab boards and played a tough physical game but ended up being no match for the Tojans as they ran away with the Regional Championship.

Rock Springs will play in the State Tournament next week on Thursday at 12:00 PM in Casper. The Tigers will first face off with Cheyenne Central who surprised Sheridan in their Regional Tournament. Rock Springs already beat Central this year, but nothing is ever given. You can catch the game in Casper or listen on 99.7 FM.

Tigers Maul "The Pack" 73-47

Rock Springs had one of its biggest wins of the season Thursday night against Green River. The long rivalry that thrives between Rock Springs and Green River continued with the annual blood drive. Both schools did a fantastic job during the blood drive to help save over 1,400 lives. Green River ended up winning by 9 pints of donated blood and took home the trophy for the second straight year.

That didn't stop the team from shredding the Wolves in the first match-up of the year between the two. Rock Springs started out strong in the first half and led 35-16, the most comfortable lead the Tigers have had all season. Thanks to the fast pace of the offense, Rock Springs was able to control every aspect of the game. They did tend to show some bad spots defensively at times, and that was the only thing discussed during halftime. Rock Springs has had a few rough games defensively, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Moving into the second half of the game up by 19, there wasn't much to worry about if you were wearing orange and black. The Tigers manged to get 16 steals along with 30 boards defensively. They also only allowed Green River to shoot 32% from the field. While Green River has struggled all year long, they didn't stop fighting which was impressive. However, the lead did nothing but increase throughout the second half, and we got to see a lot of the younger players get in and have some Varsity experience.

Jared Kendrick was able to have one of his best games of the year. Kendrick had 15 points and 9 boards for the Tigers. Darek Mattinson recorded 14 points, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Spence, Willmore, and Goodrich also played great games.

Koltin Legerski chipped in a nice game coming off the bench. Legerski was able to record 8 total rebounds and put up 4 points. Perhaps, seeing Benson Nyguen come in after the student section begged to see him was one of the most exciting parts of the game. Nyguen seeing his first varsity time this year knocked down 4 points and had a nice steal in the final minutes of the game.

Rock Springs travels to Evanston to play the Red Devils Friday night. You can catch the game on 99.7 FM if you are unable to attend. A win against Evanston is key to helping the Tigers get the number one spot in the rankings. The Tigers are 3-1 as they head into Friday to take on Evanston.
